Dear members,

Spring is here and we about to open the club officially! We are anticipating a summer similar to pre pandemic times. We are getting there… Please read the club newsletters to stay in the “know”. They are also posted on our website under “Latest News”.

LEAGUES

The Survey emailed to past members in February provided good information for the upcoming season as follows:

House League

After an absence of a couple of years, we are preparing for this year’s house league, consisting of four teams. The dates of play will be Sunday between 7 and 9 pm, from May 29 to August 28. Registered players will play every other week. You can sign up through your online account to be one of 64 regular players and pay the $15 registration fee (that pays for balls). Players can also sign up to be substitute players. If you do sign up as a regular, please consider being a captain as we will need a total of 8, 2 per team. This is a popular program so if you are interested, don’t delay registering. Tryouts to help set the teams will be on May 1 at 7 pm, with a rain date of May 8.

Club Ladders

There will be three ladders this year, similar to last year:

  • woman’s and
  • mixed singles and
  • double’s box ladder.

The ladders will run from May 1st to the end of September. To be entered into the start of season ranking, please register through your Whiteoaks online account no later than April 24th. Entries after this date will be placed at the bottom of the ladder, subject to the ladder rules.

Ladies House League (3.0 level)

The Ladies House League is back!

It will be held Tuesday mornings starting June 7th and run weekly until August 30, 2022. Barb Price is the co-ordinator.  She will hold a meeting at the club on Tuesday May 3 at 10:00 a.m. to provide details to interested players. If you are interested, please contact Barb at barbpricepantrymanager@cogeco.ca.

Intercity Leagues

The club is pleased to announce that we are resuming our participation in intercity leagues. At this point, the Lakeshore and Intercounty Leagues have held meetings and are organized for the upcoming season. For your information, both leagues have decided there will be no food provided this season.

The following teams have captains/co-captains and will be participating in Interclub leagues:

Lakeshore League

Division 1 or 4 – captains and team TBD

Division 2 – captain Dan Dobre

Division 3 – captain Lily Zhou

Intercounty League

Ladies Majors           captain Catalina Meija Roza, co-captain Marilu Silva

Ladies A (1)               captain Nancy Hubbs, co-captain Alison Bittle-Fair

Ladies A (2)               captain Carm Ruffolo, co-captain Jessie Toor

55+ Team(s)

The Intercounty 55+ league represents a challenging level of tennis for the 55+ age group. There are many strong clubs in this league. In the past, the club had a division 1 team and a division 2 team. This team is composed of 6 players each week, one men’s doubles, one mixed doubles and one ladies doubles. From the survey, many members signed up for both teams. There are many interested ladies however, there are only some interested men. There is potential for one team and maybe 2 teams, to be decided after the tryouts. Captains are still to be confirmed. Please sign up for the tryouts!! Go to “Register for Programs, Lessons, Camps and Events”. Then select “Register for Adult Programs” and register for the desired tryouts:

Tryouts

In order to participate on the various teams, the club has scheduled tryouts, which was the normal procedure, in the pre-pandemic past. The captains and club pro will manage the tryouts.  If you want to play on a team, please register through your online account by April 19th for the Intercounty teams and April 22nd for the Lakeshore teams. Go to “Register for Programs, Lessons, Camps and Events”. Then select “Register for Adult Programs” and register for the desired tryouts:

Windscreens

It is still early in the season and the City has not yet turned on the water so washrooms are not yet available. All courts have nets installed and are available for online booking and member enjoyment. But, the windscreens are yet to be mounted.

Our Facilities Director is planning to mount the windscreens at the club on Saturday April 23, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until noon with a rain date of Sunday April 24, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Please note: if the windscreens go up on Sunday April 24th, the Lakeshore team tryouts will be moved from 11:00 a.m. to noon – 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers are needed for this BIG job.  Please contact Absalon Figuera, facilities@whiteoaksparktennis.com if you are available to assist.

Online Booking Rules

Please refresh your memory by reading the Online Booking Rules https://www.whiteoaksparktennis.com/online-booking-rules/.

Last season, there were several members who consistently did not show or cancel their prime time court time before the 2 hour cancellation timeframe.  Booking privileges were suspended for one week when this happened at least 2 times. We heard various reasons. It is your responsibility to cancel the court. If you need to cancel your court:

  1. Cancel it online through your account
  2. Phone (905 855-0900) the club during attendant hours and request that the court be canceled
  3. Email info@whiteoaksparktennis.com to request the cancellation and provide a reason.

Several members indicated that the club newsletters went to their spam. If this is the case, please check your junk or spam folders to ensure this doesn’t happen and mark the newsletter “not junk” to receive future issues.

New Member Fob Pickup

If you are a new member, you may pick up the Key Fob from the membership director at the clubhouse, on Saturday April 9th or 23rd from 10 a.m. until noon OR pick up the Key Fob form the court attendant at the club, from April 30th onwards.

Last but not Least

If you are the last players leaving in the evening, PLEASE turn off all lights!!

If there are any questions about the information in this newsletter, please email infor@whiteoaksparktennisclub.com.

See you on the courts!
